EDMONTONOILERS.COM FILLS THE VOID: COMPLETE 1981 GAME OF GRETZKY HITTING 50 GOALS IN 39 GAMES

A massive “well done” is in order to the folks at edmontonoilers.com.  In these dark days, with the NHL locked out for the foreseeable future, us hockey fans are struggling to fill the big puck-shaped hole in our lives.  Thankfully, the Oilers have posted, in full, a game that truly made history: back in December 1981, Wayne Gretzky was ripping up the league; after his 37th game of the season, he already had 41 goals in 37 games – an insane total in itself – and was on pace to match Mike Bossy and Maurice “Rocket” Richard’s joint record of scoring 50 goals in 50 games.  In his 38th game of the season, Wayne scored 4 goals to give him 45 in 38.  Nobody really expected him to hit 50 for at least a couple more games, but they were wrong.  Dead wrong.

Watch this game for one of the greatest individual hockey performances you will EVER witness.
